Product information
The Babolat Pure Aero 98 Gen 9 is the most control-oriented racquet in the Pure Aero line, made for competitive players who swing hard and want to dictate rallies with heavy spin and accuracy. Babolat spent two years of lab and on-court research on this generation, with one aim: a more aerodynamic frame that cuts through the air so you can swing at full arm speed and still keep your forehands and backhands precise. Babolat has been developing spin technology for more than 20 years, and the Pure Aero 98 is where that experience is aimed squarely at the player who wants control as well as spin.
Speed through the air starts with AeroModular 4. A reworked core and integrated plastic parts reduce air drag by around 6%, according to Babolat, which helps you build head speed and acceleration more easily. That extra racquet-head speed is what feeds spin, smoothness and power on every swing, helping you hit heavy topspin with full commitment.
The spin itself comes from FSI Spin. A denser string bed is paired with spin grommets at 6 and 12 o'clock, letting the strings move more freely and snap back at contact for controlled, powerful spin, while the Woofer System increases the time the ball spends on the strings for better grip and feel. The tighter string bed also supports big swings and gives a more precise, predictable response when you go for your shots.
For feel, Babolat uses NF²-Tech 2.0, a natural flax fibre in a 100% unidirectional fabric that adds strength along the fibre direction and filters out vibration. The flax is placed so that only the feel you want reaches your hand, which gives the Pure Aero 98 a cleaner, more connected response at impact and keeps it comfortable through long matches.
With its smaller head, the Pure Aero 98 offers a tighter, more precise sweet spot and sharper feedback than the larger Pure Aero models. The slightly heavier frame adds stability and plow-through on heavy shots, and the head-light balance keeps it maneuverable for quick reactions at the net. It suits advanced and competitive players with fast swing speeds who commit to every swing. Babolat suggests pairing it with RPM Blast or RPM Rough strings to get the most from its spin-friendly string bed. It is finished in metallic grey with fluo yellow.
