Squash balls are colour-coded by bounce and speed - the dots tell you which level they suit, and using the right ball is essential for a good game. A beginner with a Double Yellow Dot comp ball will struggle; choose by your level and the court temperature.
Tension 24 stocks Dunlop squash balls for an optimum squash game. We stock the 4 different styles of balls – Pro, Competitive, Progress and Intro for all levels of play.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a 1 dot and 2 dot squash ball?
Both are 'double' colour balls used by advanced/competitive players, but 2-dot is the tournament competition ball (lowest bounce), while 1-dot bounces slightly more for club play. Earlier in the progression: red and blue balls have much more bounce for beginners.
Which squash ball to use for beginners?
Beginners should use a slow-bouncing, high-bounce ball - a red (1-dot slow-bounce/beginner) or blue/yellow-spot ball. Standard Double Yellow Dot comp balls are too dead for learners. Ask in-store and we'll set you up with the right ball for your level.
What do the different squash balls mean?
The dots/colours mark bounce and speed from beginner to pro: Double Yellow (comp, lowest bounce) -> 1-dot (club) -> Red (beginner, high bounce) -> Blue (junior/coaching) and progressive. Match the ball to the player's level and the court condition.
